ceitfianna: (Inception-look sideways)
I have a job interview next week and sent off another job application today for a library near where my aunt lives. I do love how when school's decide they want to talk to you, it happens quick. Yesterday I had an email saying are you still interested in this job, today they called to arrange the interview which happens on Tuesday. It's a school in a suburb of Detroit, so at least the drive won't be long and I've given myself time to hopefully not get lost. Detroit and the surrounding area is so confusing.

Life is strange and wonderful. I'm feeling much healthier, taking a break at [personal profile] dodger_sister's was completely the right choice. Not doing anything in a ACed house was prefect and I had a good long rest. Last night work was incredibly quiet and I hope tonight will be too as getting to work involves navigating Art Fair. I've seen some pretty things there including a lovely glass pendant in green that I might end up buying. The only drawback to Art Fair is that when its all quiet and closed down walking through it makes my late night walk a little stranger.

Now for one more round of the 5 topics meme. If you want me to give you topics just say five in the comments.

These are from [personal profile] aberration:

1. James McAvoy
I don't remember when I first discovered James McAvoy, I think it might have been when he was in Children of Dune, which I enjoyed. Then when I started at Milliways, I needed a face for Will Scarlett and I found him. Since then he's become an actor that I'm always watching to see what he does. I think what I love about him is that he's consistently good, makes interesting choices in his work and seems to have fun. At this point, I've yet to see everything he's done and probably never will but he's one of my strongest celebrity crushes. Whenever he's interviewed about any movie, he's always smiling and it's clear he chooses projects he enjoys. They're not always great and sometimes rather weird, but that's what's great about him. Sometimes I wish that more people knew of him, but not for long. I like that he can do what he finds interesting.

2. Greek Mythology
I've loved Greek Mythology since I was a little girl as I grew up with this beautifully illustrated book of the myths from the twenties that I loved. I've always been fascinated by the basic stories we tell and how they get changed through the centuries. Most of my undergrad work and grad work in Classics was based around literature and how are stories told. My favorite part of Greek Mythology is how even in their era, poets and playwrights went, this is how I'm going to tell this story and this is how someone else does. It means that there are many ways to think and approach and that's created a basis for us to be constantly examining the stories now.

3. Travel
Travel makes me happy. I love going out to see a new place, getting lost and then learning to find my way. One of the best ways to learn and realize what you don't know is putting yourself in a place where you don't fit. I've done that by living abroad and moving to new cities, its not an easy thing to do but its part of what makes me who I am. The kind of travel I'm hoping to do in the near future will be around the US, connecting with Milliways' people and more job searching.

4. New Zealand
New Zealand was the first place where I felt like an adult. During my first year there, I supported myself through temp work, found friends and connections and learned so much. The second and third years were trickier as I dealt with my master's degree that didn't work and broke up with a boyfriend, but its one of my favorite places in the world. Wellington has everything I love in a city, its by the water, its full of many different things and its walkable. I think the thing I love most about New Zealand is how the entire country feels small and people can take the time to care and do more there. When I worked for the ministry of health, I was impressed by how much they did for people and that comes through in all kinds of interactions. People just pay more attention and I hope to go back there someday.

5. Dessert
I have a sweet tooth, I always have and probably always will. Chocolate is my favorite item of dessert as it comes in so many forms and is just delicious. My father makes homemade chocolate sauce that I've had with so many lovely meals. I love to bake and cook so I enjoy trying new desserts from cakes to all sorts of other dishes. My dessert of choice this summer is ice cream and berries or yogurt and berries since it's just been far too hot.
ceitfianna: (Hiding Cat)
I would like this week to have a few things go right on the first try. The movers were late sending out the online confirmation but that's done. There's a email from the my student loans telling me to go look at a message from them but I don't want to. Last time I did the amount of interest made me want to cry, that will get put off a little longer.

My body keeps feeling off as in having asthma issues that I haven't had in a while. Allergies have rarely made me wheeze, its disturbing and disconcerting, I would like to not fall apart. My ear also seems to have healed, but it feels like it needs more. I also haven't been sleeping properly so I keep having points during the day where my temperature feels off and I just want to fall over and hide for a time. End of body rant and worries.

Meebo messenger's been shut off and I can't find a replacement that will let me get into chat, not even AIM Express which is messed up. I've got a five hour shift today and I'm already feelings a bit out of it, need chat and its wonderful community. So guys, I'm online but can't get into chat.

I'm going to do some meme answers, try to figure out who to do Happy Hour with tonight and maybe even write more on a fic that I should write. Perhaps tomorrow is a good day to go to the movies and hide from the world for a little bit.

Icon meme first.

1. Reply to this post with Dance with me, and I will pick five of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.

These five icons were chosen by [personal profile] bjornwilde

At one point I started watching Gossip Girl, I think I finished the first season but that was it. I found this icon and I love it as it shows the best of female friendship, two friends just being together.

[personal profile] anthologia made this icon and it feels quite apt for where I am at the moment, looking towards the future and not knowing what's ahead. Its peaceful and beautiful.

I loved Inception and this was by far my favorite scene in it because there was a clear sense of this isn't true reality. I wish honestly that there had been more of this but loved what there was. It was harder than I expected to find an icon of this moment.

This is a scene from the movie Atonement which I'm not a fan of. Its a gorgeous movie with wonderful actors, but I hate, hate the story. If I could have removed the actual plot, I might have liked it better. Its a heartbreaking movie about how a badly thought out and rather selfish choice that destroyed lives and to me that the person who did the wrecking never really got it. The atonement that's supposed to be the payoff felt weak to me. I have a fair amount of icons from this movie for Will as James MacAvoy spends a lot of time in it looking older than his age and hurting. I use this icon for war related things and general sadness.

My mother's originally from Carmel by the Sea so I spent my childhood spending one or two weeks there and visiting my grandmother, aunt, uncle and cousin. I also grew up not far from the Atlantic ocean in Pennsylvania and my parents now live on the Delaware shore. I'm happiest when water is within walking distance for me. I loved that about Wellington, not only was the water right there but the waterfront was someplace I wanted to be. There was the public library and Te Papa and places to sit and watch the world go by. Everything for me feels a little more possible by the water. This icon is my beach, water one.

Now another round of the five topics meme.

Comment to this post saying "FIVE!" and I will pick five things I would like you to talk about. They might make sense or be totally random.

Then post that list, with your commentary, to your journal. Other people can get lists from you, and the meme merrily perpetuates itself, hopefully for the rest of eternity!

(I don't really care if you say "FIVE" or let me know some other way. Just for the record.)

These five are from [personal profile] crazyfurries

Five more words )

Now all this writing has been feeling a little more even keeled and now to plot who will do Happy Hour in Milliways.
ceitfianna: (tea and a book)
My morning started off strange, I lost another right contact lens, which always leaves me off. I like wearing contacts but there are times I hate putting them on especially when I don't wake up when I wanted to. I'm still working on the Valentine's Day prompts and hope to post them this weekend as I have ideas and want them to be good.

Everything at Milliways is making me feel busy and happen. I love when plots come together and I get chances to have wonderful unexpected threads and to see what happens. There's a decent sized list of housekeeping of journals that I have to do in terms of OOMs and paid accounts but those will get done.

For now I'm going to do another round of this new variation on the question meme:

Comment to this post, and I will list seven things I want you to talk about. They might make sense or they might be totally random.
Then post that list, with your commentary, to your journal. Other people can get lists from you, and the meme merrily perpetuates itself.

Seven questions from [personal profile] minkhollow
7 Answers )

Questions from [personal profile] ladysingsthe

1. What is your favorite thing to do when it's cold and wet out?
Get a big mug of tea, a good book and ignore the world.

2. When you're stressed, what relaxes you?
Venting, a good vent clears the air for me. Then I do something that has nothing to do with why I'm stressed but gets me moving. I find cooking can be one of my best stress relievers as it involves chopping, stirring, considering spices and by the time I'm done, I'm past what's bothering me. Other times going on a walk or a drive, just getting out of being in the space where I'm stressed does wonders for me. Whenever I'm stressed, I have this bad habit of overthinking and creating bad thought spirals so getting myself to do something physical short circuits them.

3. Do you believe in ghosts or anything paranormal?
I do, but I don't tend to talk about them a lot. My mother and I both read the tarot and see omens and answers in the not most obvious places. My father is a scientist so we don't really discuss those things too much with him, but I do believe that there's more out there than what's visible.

4. What's one thing you want to do or learn, but haven't yet?
It's hard to pick just one thing for this. I want to learn Tai Chi and a new type of dance for me.

5. What types of music do you gravitate towards?
Music that tells stories. I have a rather large collection of country music because I liked it when I was younger due to the stories. Now I also listen to folk, alternative and really anything with a story that clicks with me. Also music that I can move to, I adore Baroque music, soundtracks and musicals as there's a sense in them of this music wants you to be active.

6. If you could have three wishes, with let's assume no perverse incentives/loophole-seeking genies, what would the wishes be?
1-A job at a public library that's not too far from people I know where I get to spend my days getting kids excited about books.
2-A guy in my life who just wants to be with me.
3-Money to take an amazing US road trip or a trip around Europe.

7. Are you a dog person, cat person, or another kind of person entirely?
Cat person. I grew up with cats and whenever I get to visit someone with cats, I feel really happy. Though I'd consider myself a dog aunt as I love to see them when I don't have to take care of them full time.
ceitfianna: (Default)
I always find it interesting to do this year in review meme so I'm going to post it as my sister in law and nieces play hearts. Life is feeling pretty good at this point. My banking stuff is finally sorted after another phone call where someone reversed the overdraft charges and sped up my credit for stolen money. It's progress which I'm grateful for.

Also I've created mirror journals for all of my RP ones though the only differences is that Tiwa and Jane's journals don't have their underscores. I started some of the imports but then realized that honestly those can wait as with some of them that will be a project. Today was wonderful, our family went for a walk out by Cape Henlopen and I split off at one point and had a nice quiet second half of the walk and took some gorgeous pictures along with having an idea for a fic. The afternoon has been lazy and since the weather in Delaware is amazingly good, my father set up the chiminea we have outside so the girls could have s'mores.

We spent some nice time being chilly, drinking wine and eating sugar, I also took some good pictures. I love having my family close and discovering my brother and I have very similar music tastes as he gave me a playlist full of Ryan Adams. Currently there's lamb cooking in the oven and lots of delicious wine. I hope everyone's New Year is wonderful. I feel blessed to have spent this year with all of you and hopefully next year I can meet more of you.

Looking back on 2011 )
ceitfianna: (a writer's life)
I'm feeling productive as I've been getting some words out there. Yesterday I wrote a gift fic for [livejournal.com profile] thebattycakes, it's a William Evans and Bill Pardy fic and might end up being a part one. Today I also posted a poem on my librarian blog called Recipe for a Librarian.

This little meme was just posted on [livejournal.com profile] wanderlustlover's journal and I think it's wonderful.

Tell me about a story I haven't written.
And I'll give you between one and three sentences from that story.

Now I'm going to do two more rounds of the five words' meme, which keeps getting me writing about things dear to my heart.

From [livejournal.com profile] saphyriaMichigan, librarianship, James McAvoy, mythology, books )

From [livejournal.com profile] wanderlustloverRobin Hood, education, travel, kindness, gaming )
ceitfianna: (dreams)
The past two nights my dreams have been restless and hard to leave behind when I wake. Last night I seemed to have tumbled into a murder mystery crossed with I'm not sure what. James McAvoy was there speaking in his lovely Scottish accent and we had to get somewhere but the only boats we had were more like baskets. A river was flooding and I was trying to help find something but I didn't know what or where to look. I've had worse anxiety dreams, this one was just tricky as the images stayed with me. Using a basket like coracle and the water washing everything away.

The night before last I dreamed I was in a place that felt like something out of Star Trek, all corridors and no windows but I was with the Avengers. Somehow I had a bow that wasn't a bow that I knew and I had to help. I was at the end of this line with all the heroes to the front and I didn't know how to fire the weapon.

Now neither of these dreams were truly nightmares, they've just stuck with me and I'm hoping that writing them out will someone help them not bother me as much.

Mainly I've been doing well, this is my last week of having two closing shifts in a row and I have various things planned before I head off to see my family at the end of August. I'm feeling good and spending my time reading great books like Ptolemy's Gate by Jonathan Stroud. Also I have a googledoc full of jobs to apply for and most of them are fairly easy since I already have a great cover/application letter written. The dreams are just my subconscious going you're in transition and what comes next is still up in the air. I need to keep reminding myself that I'm good at transitions and this time, I know what I want and have the tools to do amazing things.

There's a tiny bit of money worry, but I can deal with that. The nice thing about seeing my family at the end of the month is my next paycheck won't be hit as hard.
ceitfianna: (tea and a book)
It feels like Fall is on the way today as its rainy and getting colder. Today has been up and down. I've been enjoying watching Leonardo! that [livejournal.com profile] innerbrat introduced me to, but I'm also feeling slightly off. I have various errands I need to get done like grocery shopping and home stuff that I just don't seem to have the energy for at the moment. Tonight to try and cheer myself up, I took myself out to dinner and a nice local place had a soft shell crab sandwich. That sandwich made me terribly homesick for the East Coast as it was too small, too battered and a cruel thing to do to a soft shell crab. I'm having a small slump as my ideas are being slow in coming except for one, which is mean to one of my characters. Either tomorrow or Monday, I'm going to do errands and put my music on loud as I accomplish things.

I saw Captain America last night and really enjoyed it. They captured wonderfully how honest and earnest Steve is and it was overall a fun ride. I'm excited to see what the Avengers will be like together since the teaser at the end made me hopeful.

Now for another round of the icon meme with an extra. The first time I did it, it was actually meant to be seven icons but I completely forgot to do one for [livejournal.com profile] in_the_blue so this time, there will be that icon and then another six for [livejournal.com profile] skidmo

Comment if you'd like some icons and I'll give you six.

I love my 100x100 squares )

That was good and distracting, now I think I'm going to try and write things.
ceitfianna: (koru)
Today has been a hopeful day for me in a lot of ways. I began by doing all my normal computer stuff on my new laptop, which was wonderful. At the moment I'm using Google Chrome and really liking it as it seems to do all the things I want. I do miss colored tabs a lot and so might go back to Firefox later or go between them, it all depends.

Now the first big thing I had today was a meeting with a woman in the SI Career office and I got there early and since I'd brought Lark, my new laptop, got online. I love that I can actually just carry my laptop so easily, it makes me feel rather professional and good. The meeting I had was fantastic, she basically told me, you're doing everything right and now its time to start writing cover letters and applying. I think I impressed her with all the things I'd done so far.

After that I headed over to the main library as I needed to turn in my timesheet and discovered that I'm going to have a lovely boost to paycheck from helping with the Ann Arbor Book Festival, which might go towards a new office chair and a pad for under it. My current one's wheels have been breaking since I bought it and at some point it was shifted and now sits oddly with my desk and doesn't work. The rest of my afternoon has been spent transferring files to Dropbox and thus to my new laptop and its going so quickly, I love it.

Tomorrow I get to see X-Men First Class again, yay for more James' being Charles Xavier and that's all. Saturday will be terribly busy with the book fair but there's the break between the semesters coming up so I'm going to have some more time. I have a whole bunch of answers to the five question meme to post but I think I'll do that separately so its neater.

Now I just need to figure out what moment in time to post Jane in from in the Mixed Muses' post, I think in Plymouth.
ceitfianna: (Tom on the banister)
Today is turning out wonderfully. It started out with seeing X-Men: First Class with [livejournal.com profile] the_croupier and that was a good solid movie. I enjoyed the visuals and James McAvoy's talents were on display in a great way. Rick and I agreed that you could tell the people in the movie enjoyed making it, Thor was the same way. James was so clearly relishing the chance to be Charles with references to Patrick Stewart and brilliant. I'm not allowed to get a Charles Xavier's voice but I might see the movie again.

After that Rick and I headed to Zingerman's Roadhouse where sadly I discovered, they don't really know how to do fried oysters. I love oysters and my mother taught me to flash fry them and I've been missing seafood, so I tried their oyster po'boy. It was one of those dishes that was overthought, too much breading, too fancy bread, too much other stuff and not enough focus on the oysters. Though it led to a wonderful conversation about how easy it is to cook seafood since when its good, the trick is to not do too much to it. The only problem is I can't get to Copp's, the hidden away seafood store that my parents good to in Lewes and buy scallops or oysters or catfish and make something myself.

Today I also got a wonderful early birthday/graduation gift from my oldest brother, a 100 dollar gift certificate for Amazon which knowing me will take a while to spend. And yesterday I figured out how to spend this weird online only gift card that I got for doing a Twitter survey, I bought stuff from Lush.

At the moment, I just started my shift and when I get home, I'll do my reading for class tomorrow and on Wednesday, I'll turn thirty. Life is good.
ceitfianna: (candy raspberries)
Next Wednesday on June 8th, I turn thirty and I have no idea how I want to celebrate.

Last year I had two of my friends from Ann Arbor over and we had food and played D&D. I know I want to do something even if its not terribly big and I'd love thoughts.

My parents are visiting later in the month and I know that will involve celebrations, they also sent me a package that I need to get from the post office. Apparently I heard the post man at the buzzer but they didn't talk into it so I was confused and missed it.

Also there will be the new X-Men movie at some point since I've had good luck with movies of his that come out near my birthday. Becoming Jane came out in New Zealand the week of my birthday and I saw it twice since it made me happy.

Please tell me some of your favorite birthday plots and plans?

In something not birthday related, I got my haircut and it looks great. Its at my chin and so much lighter though the hairdresser almost forgot to cut my bangs until I reminded her. I'm still feeling tired but I think that's really the heat and how there wasn't any in between here. We just went from rainy to full on summer.

Oh Actors

ceitfianna: (James in the rain)
In this review of The Conspirator, I read a description of James MacAvoy's acting that perfectly captures exactly why he's Will's face. I think I also want to see this movie, the review is fairly positive and it has actors I like.

But between The Last King of Scotland, Wanted, The Last Station, and Atonement, he's in danger of becoming typecast as the nice handsome guy to whom other people do awful things.

Maybe X-Men will change that and he can actually be badass and not die or get beat up. I'd appreciate that.
ceitfianna: (Dean time rambles on)
Last night, I decorated the tree with my parents and at some point this week, I'll send off my holiday cards. Later today, I might do some wrapping and I have a plan for [livejournal.com profile] milliclaus, I just need to find out a few things.

Sometime last week, [livejournal.com profile] spiffynamehere posted another round of the icon meme and now I can finally answer it.

001. Reply to this post, and I will pick 6-8 of your icons.
002. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
003. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
004. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon squee.

[livejournal.com profile] moofoot made this icon for me when she created my current layout and its James McAvoy being attractive. I like the sentiment of it since its a good reminder that today might not be great but its only one day.

Ferns make me think of New Zealand and this one is called koru, because that's the Maori name for a fern that's getting ready to unfurl. Its hopeful and pretty.

I found this icon on a huge post someone had made of gold icons. I'm pretty sure that its a wreath that would be used in burials in Macedon for Alexander the Great's family. So I like it and its one of my Classical icons.

I found this image when I was looking for images of fantails for [livejournal.com profile] pi_wakawaka. Its by an amazing New Zealand artist named Rex Homan and I adore the movement in it and it really captures the beauty of fantails.

I made this icon when I realized I didn't have a cooking icon. Its a stock image and it just makes me smile since licking the gooey leftovers is the best part of baking.

I also made this icon, because I wanted something with Greek on it. This is an ostracon from Athens that was found in the agora and would have been used to ostracize a politician. I'm very happy with how the cropping and coloring turned out.
ceitfianna: (fairy illustration)
I finally have all of my grades for the semester and I did better than I hoped. This entry is going to be full of prompts and memes and good stuff, because I feel accomplished and happy at the moment. The title comes from the fact that one of my favorite things to do during the Spring is make dandelion wishes and there are so many dandelions on my walk into town. I think tomorrow I will go and take lots of pictures of Ann Arbor in the Springtime.

My grades:
502-Core Course where I learned programming and other cool stuff-A+
Online Communities-A-
School Library Management-B
Archives-B-

Now for some more prompts, because this week is my own and I want to write for people and I adored all the prompts that I got last time. Choose a lyric and give me a pairing or a fandom and I'll write something for you.

1-The weight of gravity or the lure of life
2-And hopefulness is like a drug
3-I say fate should not tempt me
4-Spit and polish til it shines
5-That its habit alone keeps you turning for home
6-It's the hardest kind of need that never knows a reason
7-I knew I would only see his shadow in what light is left
8-It's like a fever and a spell, unbroken by a sigh
9-It was the place I put my heart
10-Am I going overboard to want that touch?
11-Without thinking, he must erase each scar
12-Who can stand all those should haves
13-I wasn't odd or strange, just quietly rearranged
14-How to laugh at catastrophe
15-Hands that heal can set a chained man free

I think to find myself a whole lot more Mary Chapin Carpenter music, because picking these lyrics reminded me of just how much I love her stuff.

Now for the amazing icon meme, this round from [livejournal.com profile] misslucyjane
001. Reply to this post, and I will pick six-eight of your icons.
002. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
003. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
004. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon squee.

My icons are going under the cut so I don't clog up anyone flist's.
Six icons for me )
ceitfianna: (Wellington)
I ended up finishing up a redo of the book review and I have a plan for my presentation today, I'm just so tired but the end is in sight. Also I really enjoyed Supernatural last night, I think I can say without any spoilers that I love it when its really a show about family.

So I'm going to put up a little meme from [livejournal.com profile] newredshoes since I like the idea of it and its just a happy one, which I feel like I need with how long things are. Though this is a slightly harder meme than I expected and my answers were a bit longer than I thought they'd be.

Give me a color and I will name ten things in that color that I like.
I was given blue.

1-The sea, my mother's originally from Northern California so I spent my childhoods partly by the Pacific and now my parents have retired to the Delaware Shore. Whenever I travel, I search out ways to be near the water like Greece and New Zealand. I love all the various blues of the sea and how it changes and moves.
2-Paua shell or abalone which is this amazing shell that could almost be the sea with shifting shades of blues and purples and I wish I had more paua jewelery.
3-Blue of the University of Michigan, I'm almost finished one half of my program at SI and the wonderful sense of camaraderie and hard work here is wonderful. Next year, I'll actually get to a football game.
4-My eyes, I have blue eyes and they're one of my favorite features.
5-The sky, like the sea, I love all the shifting shades you can find in the sky and so a lot of my pictures tend to be musings on storm clouds or blue sky through branches.
6-A dark blue bracelet that I wear every day from this wonderful store in Lewes, the beads are a medium size and I love the weight of it. Its a little too early in the morning for me to remember what kind of stone they're made of.
7-My various Norton Anthologies of English Literature in their dark blue covers, I love reading deep into text and they represent one of my favorite undergrad courses, the survey of British Literature.
8-The lovely blue eyes of a number of my favorite actors; James MacAvoy, Jude Law and others, mm pretty men.
9-My car, this might be cheating slightly since its color is a grey but it has some blue tones in it and after driving around North of Detroit for a while, I'm grateful for how solid and sturdy it is.
10-Blueberries, tasty little bites of summer.

Since [livejournal.com profile] misslucyjane was asking for fanvids, I found one of the most beautiful Becoming Jane ones when I discovered that one of my favorites disappeared.

Also [livejournal.com profile] dynastessa, since this of course inspired me, here's the next OOM for them. I'll be working from four to eight pm tomorrow but I do have net access so we can hopefully get it started.

I need to do more work on the Winchesters in Austenland story too, it just needs more. Oh and I'm feeling much, much healthier today, my throat's a little sore but that's all.

Thanks for all your good thoughts everyone, things are better both with me and parents just had a hard part of the day. So since the poll tied with Will/James McAvoy and Alizee/Tiwa and I haven't made that many icons, I'm going to post them both.

Anyone is welcome to use these icons but please comment and credit if you do since I like knowing where they're going. Be warned, they're not all perfect squares just because I'm still learning how to do this so hope you enjoy.
