The weather here is rather awful but my apartment is looking much neater. I need to do a bit more straightening before my parents get here on Thursday and find something to put all my journals and magazines in before I post the final pictures.
In the meantime, my time of the month is making me not want to move and I did something so that one of my in steps is just hurting a lot which makes walking not fun. So I've been putting off sending my nieces birthday present for a while just because my normal walk hurts.
Now for a change of pace, because the icon meme has been done a lot,
mmexlibris gave me five questions.
1-Comment here with ask me or something like that.
2-I'll give you five questions that you can either answer in the comments or in your journal.
3-The cycle keeps going and we learn more about each other.
1) What's your favourite children's book?
This is a really hard one to answer so I'm going to give you some of my favorites. The Frog and Toad books with the accompanying audio, it was tapes when I was growing up and now its cds. Ferdinand the Bull, The Bear Circus, any Babar book and The Little Prince.
2) What's your favourite book to reread again and again?
This is another tricky one because I really adore rereading books and I tend to reread entire series when I get going. Terry Pratchett and Diana Wynne Jones' books always top my rereading list, because I can find something new and wonderful in them every time. As I was reorganizing my books yesterday, I discovered that I actually own most of the Discworld series, none of the companion books but most of the series. Also I love rereading classic cozy mysteries; Ngaio Marsh is one of my favorites, because her stories have so much going on.
3) Give me your favourite recipe for something with yummy carbs, savoury or sweet.
This is my favorite kind of cookie from New Zealand and a wonderful recipe for them. I don't always make the icing but its tasty.
Oturehua Tavern Afghan Biscuits
14 Tbs. butter
½ cup sugar
1 1/5 cups flour
¼ cup cocoa
1 tsp. vanilla
2 cups cornflakes (measure without crushing)
1 Tbs. butter
2 Tbs. water
¼ cup chocolate chips
1 ¼ cups powdered sugar
walnuts
Cream the 14 tbs. butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Sift together flour and cocoa, and stir into creamed mixture. Add vanilla. Lightly crush the cornflakes, then gently and thoroughly fold into the batter. They should be well distributed without crushing them too much – which is what gives this cookie its special crunch!
Grease a cookie sheet. Form balls about the size of a walnut, and place on sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 18 minutes, until firm to the touch. Cool on a rack.
Icing: melt the 1 tbs. butter, the water and chocolate chips over low heat. Then stir in the powdered sugar, and beat until it is spreading consistency. Add more sugar if necessary. Ice the cookies and decorate each with a walnut. Makes 2 dozen.
4) What's your favourite thing to do outside of Milliways, hobbies wise?
Cooking is one of my favorite thing to do and I'm hoping to do it more, now that I have time. I'm still searching for a dance class or something here, because I love learning a new skill and getting a chance to move.
5) What's your favourite guilty pleasure?
Chocolate in any form and spending an entire day just reading one book.
